Manager- EHS (Environment, Health & Safety)

Position Summary

The HSE Manager in implementing and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in our Silvassa facility. This role involves overseeing the development, execution, and monitoring of safety programs, identifying and mitigating risks, and ensuring a safe working environment for all employees. The Assistant Manager will also play an integral part in driving safety culture, improving operational performance, and meeting regulatory standards.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Compliance & Regulatory Management:

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and national safety and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain documentation and submit reports as per statutory requirements (e.g., PCB, Factory Act, OSHA, etc.).
  • Conduct periodic audits and inspections to identify gaps and ensure compliance.

      Safety Program Implementation:

  • Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures, and systems tailored to conductor manufacturing.
  • Monitor safety standards and ensure preventive measures are in place for all high-risk processes (e.g., annealing, drawing, stranding, and handling of heavy metals).
  • Oversee PPE compliance and maintenance of safety equipment.

      Incident Management:

  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
  • Maintain incident logs and prepare monthly reports on near-misses, accidents, and lost-time injuries (LTI).

Training & Awareness:

  • Plan and conduct regular safety training, toolbox talks, and environmental awareness programs for employees, contractors, and apprentices.
  • Drive behavioral safety and safety leadership programs on the shop floor.

Risk Assessment & Control:

  • Perform hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA/JSA) for various processes including handling of chemicals, heavy machinery, and molten metal (if applicable).
  • Implement effective control measures to mitigate risks.

Environmental Management:

  • Monitor waste management (metal scrap, lubricants, chemical waste, etc.), air and water emissions, and implement eco-friendly practices.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials as per legal norms.
  • Drive initiatives for resource optimization and pollution control.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Develop and update the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for fire, electrical hazard, chemical spill, and other scenarios.
  • Conduct periodic mock drills and evaluate response readiness.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Benchmark best practices in HSE and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support cross-functional teams in implementing Lean, TPM, or ISO-based management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).

Critical Success Factors - Essential

  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, legal regulations, and ISO systems.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Familiarity with safety in metal/conductor manufacturing operations, including mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards.
  • Knowledge of fire safety systems, permit-to-work (PTW), and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Proficient in safety audit techniques and HSE software/reporting tools.

Qualification:

  • B.Tech.(EnI/Fire and Safety) + MTech (Industrial Safety/HSE) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 + years HSE experience in manufacturing plant or any heavy industry.

 

Critical Success Factors - Desirable

Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) is preferred.
